Abstract

Boron (<sup>11</sup>B) and hydrogen (<sup>1</sup>H) NMR parameters have been measured for the unique polyhedral azaborane species [(NH<sub>2</sub>Et)B<sub>8</sub>H<sub>11</sub>NHEt)] using single- and double-resonance experiments and two-dimensional shift-correlation methods. Comparison with the NMR properties of other eight-boron species, in particular <i>arachno</i>-[B<sub>8</sub>H<sub>12</sub>(PMe<sub>2</sub>Ph)], suggests that cluster of [(NH<sub>2</sub>Et)B<sub>8</sub>H<sub>11</sub>NHEt] may be better regarded as being of <i>hypho</i> character, rather than of <i>arachno</i> character as previously supposed.
