Abstract

Reaction of [PtCl<sub>2</sub>(PMe<sub>2</sub>Ph)<sub>2</sub>] with [(PMe<sub>2</sub>Ph)<sub>2</sub>PtB<sub>10</sub>H<sub>12</sub>] generates [(PMe<sub>2</sub>Ph)<sub>2</sub>-μ-η<sup>1</sup>(Pt)- η<sup>1</sup>-(Pt')-{PMe<sub>2</sub>(C<sub>6</sub>H<sub>4</sub>)}-<i>closo</i>-Pt<sub>2</sub>B<sub>10</sub>H<sub>9</sub>(PMe<sub>2</sub>Ph)] in which the phenyl group of a phosphine ligand on one platinum atom exhibits <i>ortho</i>-cyclometallation to the second metal atom, whereas reaction of PPh<sub>3</sub> with [(PMe<sub>2</sub>Ph)<sub>2</sub>PtB<sub>9</sub>H<sub>9</sub>Ru(pcym)] generates [(PMe<sub>2</sub>Ph)<sub>2</sub>-μ-η<sup>6</sup>(Ru)- η<sup>1</sup>(Pt)-(C<sub>6</sub>H<sub>5</sub>PPh<sub>2</sub>)-<i>closo</i>-PtRuB<sub>9</sub>H<sub>9</sub>] in which the phenyl group of a phosphine ligand on the platinum atom exhibits tridentate η<sup>6</sup> coordination to the second metal atom. <p>
