Abstract

[PtCl<sub>2</sub>(PMe<sub>2</sub>Ph)<sub>2</sub>] and [(R'NH<sub>2</sub>)NB<sub>8</sub>H<sub>11</sub>NHR] (where both R' and R = Et or i-Pr and where R' = i-Pr, R = <i>t</i>-Bu) with NaH and air-exposure gives the series [3,3-(PMe<sub>2</sub>Ph)<sub>2</sub>-3-PtB<sub>7</sub>H<sub>10</sub>-μ-5,6-(NHR)] (33-44%) of which the structures are closely related to those of the open eight-boron <i>hypho</i>-type starting compounds [(R'NH<sub>2</sub>)B<sub>8</sub>H<sub>11</sub>NHR] by interchange of {BH(NH<sub>2</sub>R')} and {Pt(PMe<sub>2</sub>Ph)} vertices, with structural similarities to the rare <i>arachno</i> nine-vertex "normal" B<sub>9</sub>H<sub>15</sub> geometry. Related compounds from related reactions are [(PPh<sub>3</sub>)<sub>2</sub>PtB<sub>7</sub>H<sub>10</sub>NHEt] and [(PMe<sub>2</sub>Ph)<sub>2</sub>PtB<sub>7</sub>H<sub>10</sub>NMe<sub>2</sub>]. <p>
