Abstract

In our previous work we reported the intermolecular reactions of spirothialactones with arenes, ferrocene and thiophene. The results of these investigation together with our interest in Friedel-Crafts chemistry prompted us to consider the intramolecular cyclization reactions of 2-aryl-2-benzyl-1,3-oxathiolan-5-one derivatives (<i>IIa - IId</i>) under Lewis acid catalyst effect.
