Abstract

Between 1724 and 1807, Italian opera strongly influenced the opera productions in Prague through the efforts of impresarios such as Giuseppe Bustelli (1764–77), Pasquale Bondini (1781–ca. 1788), and Domenico Guardasoni (ca. 1788–1806). Twenty operas by Paisiello performed in Prague theaters during this period are examined and the reasons for their popularity are considered. Archival documents in the Czech Republic, Dresden, and Vienna are surveyed.
