Abstract

Presents new information on the relationship of Joseph and Michael Haydn to the religious order of the Brothers Hospitallers. Besides four previously known pupils of Joseph Haydn--Joseph Němec, Abundius Miksch, Václav František Tomeš, and Jan Matěj Smrček--three others were found to be related to both Haydns: an Austrian, Stephanus Sailer, and two Czechs, František Fismann and Benignus Roth. New data on previously unknown dates and places of birth and death are discussed. The date and place of Tomeš's death and birthplaces of Miksch and Smrček are also clarified. Tomeš’s possible visit to London in 1791-92 remains unconfirmed.
