Abstract

A WETA all-tungsten atomizer and a tungsten probe in conjunction with a graphite atomizer were used for the electrothermal atomization of europium. The life of the tungsten probe was extended by combining it with a pyrolytically coated graphite tube fitted with tantalum lining and using argon-hydrogen atmosphere. The sensitivity of europium determination in the tungsten atomizer was increased by adding La<sup>3+</sup> in a concentration of 0.02 g l<sup>-1</sup>.
