Abstract

<p>The forms of polyaniline, viz. pernigraniline, emeraldine and leucoemeraldine, their mutual transformations and their roles in the chemical polymerization of aniline, are discussed. Absorption spectra of its various protonated forms and corresponding bases are reported. A simple reaction scheme is proposed to account for the colour and acidity changes during polymerization.
